One of Bach's more famous chorales makes a beautiful small ensemble selection. The upper two parts sustain the triplet countermelody while the lowest part maintains the bass foundation, leaving one part to alternate between performing the melody and harmonic underpinnings against the top parts. The group will need to focus special attention on bringing out each entrance of the melody, making sure that the other three non-melodic parts do not overpower it. The music is in the same key as the original choral work, making it possible to use the piece as accompaniment for choir. Ideal for an offertory or anthem, or secular use.
