The piece begins with a short introduction that weaves snippets of the melody into a short fugal phrase, followed by the first verse of the melody accompanied by an ascending cycle of fifths. The next section moves into a contrupunctal treatment of the tune, which can be further enhanced by the use of either martellato or mallets. The work finally returns to the first section to end as it began. The music's sheer exuberance will add delight to any Christmas program.
